Approach

From the Caseton de Andara refugio take the track up to the rectangular 'pond' just before the track heads into Pozo de Andara (Lake Depression). Take the steep track on the left and head directly up the spoil heaps. Follow the small track past various mine adits and holes before it finally starts to level out. There is a ‘bridge’ made from stacked stone that crosse left to right, follow it to the right and continue up heading towards the Long cabana and Vegas de Andara (Sara Depression). Again, take the track right that almost double backs on itself, the obvious large entrance is on the left of the track.

Entrance

Large open shaft, with obvious large stemple marks on walls.

Description

Large entrance, with easiest route in on the right-hand side, against the back wall. A P15 can be rigged off to large rocks at the surface, to a free hanging rebelay. There is loose rock at feet level, be careful.

There are two ways on at bottom of shaft. The western route (right as you look out from the pitch bottom) leads immediately to a mined-out rift with lots of stemples and a strong draft. Skylights can be seen in the roof, which is the large open rift visible on Google Earth running east to west across the ridge. The rift descends >20m – unexplored and there may be a continuation across the far side. There is a very strong draft

The eastern route leads down a steep mine gallery, to crawl and a window above a pitch. A traverse round the pitch head is on an extremely unstable mined slope and caution is advised. The pitch is 10m and leads to either a climb up to further mine levels and ladders (unexplored - but probably connects with lower route) or a window into another P10.

A further P10 a the bottom leads to a wooden floor (with traverse line) and a P15 onto a drafting ledge. The passage continues down a large, mined rift, with various stemples and ladders. It is extremely cold, draughty and loose!

The current length is 215m long with a depth of -82m. The mine levels, after the first P10, are very likely to be the Aurelia mine and may provide a safer way into the levels.
