Approach

Located and explored during the campaign of April 2017, this cavity opens its large entrance mouth in the same Yuja channel, almost at its upper end. Large, its entrance offers a spectacular image.

Description

An initial ramp of strong inclination, ends in a vertical of 30 meters. This well (P-30) with a diameter close to 15 meters, places us on another inclined ramp, where water in rainy seasons must circulate. This ramp ends in a small vertical of 3 meters, reaching a conduit where the width exceeds 9 meters. In the floor of this conduit we find a large number of blocks of different sizes, coming from the clastic processes. Continuing through the same conduit, and to the point where it begins to lose amplitude a small room puts us in the maximum depth of the torca, at this point it ends abruptly. The cavity, in its evolution, seems to respond to the series of cavities affected by reverse dissolution processes, causing said dissolution of the strong cavity cavity. The entrance mouth responds to this process, where the dome itself collapsed opening the cavity to the outside.

The Torca de la Yuja is known by the shepherds of Portudera from always, being for them a dangerous place -place where the cows "got their bearings" given their situation in a channel of strong inclination, and given that their situation is negligible -a despite its size- until it reaches the right side of the cavity.

The first explorations in the cavity seem to have been carried out by Swiss speleologists in the early 80's of the last century, as evidenced by the inscription they left in the cavity. Although reviewing his memories and work in Portudera we have not found any reference or topography of this torca. We do not know if after the exploration of the Swiss cavers the cavity was visited again. The Torca de la Yuja yields final results of -57 meters deep and 88 meters of total development.

Exploration completed.
