Cowshead Cavern (in the news)

Cowshead Cavern (or Cueva de la Cabeza de Vaca) was discovered in 1986 by a L.U.S.S. / S.W.C.C. expedition. A small resurgence caves leads to some high level chambers and in one corner a calcited ‘cows’ skull was discovered.

Fast forward a few years and the skull was extracted for analysis and research. It transpires that the skull was in fact a >35000 year old Musk Ox skull. A rare discovery and an animal previously not known to the region.

Video below (in Spanish) about the discovery.
