2004 – Trekforce discover cave and name Bat Cave
Description:
Bat cave is in effect the overflow for the Ochochpec cave forming its lower resurgence entrance. A through trip between the caves takes approx 40mins but should be treated with caution and only attempted in low water conditions.
Three further passages near the entrance are:
1. A short downstream loop just inside the entrance on the west side of the passage leads via a tight wet streamway to emerge back on the surface after 20m.
2. 50m upstream an inlet leads off in an easterly direction and ends in a choke after 15m.
3. 70m upstream another inlet leads east in a rift passage. After 15m the water sinks into a
tight slot in the floor. The main rift passage continues for a further 15m to end in a stalagmite
choke. The stream can be heard roaring below.
